New estate items! Memorial day weekend

Oops, I seem to be a little tardy on uploading new photos from recent estate sales. And since I'll be going out again in the morning I don't want to be extra double behind in posting. Enjoy!

I love these appliques! I have at least 30 of them now. Seems that I keep adding things to my mental checklist of items to look for, and appliques are new on the list. And so damn pretty! All kinds of sparkly and colorful, all the good things that a design girl like myself drools over. Too much fun. Oh, and the polka dot background? That's an old blouse that I picked up so I can use it to form the disk pad basses of my new fascinators. I love getting to reuse cloth!

Jewelry!!! Oh I am so in love with these items. They mostly came from the very artsy craftsy household that I got most of my appliques from. The gold matching pieces on the left are actually very old belt buckles, and so intricate. So much fun to be had with these items. I'm considering adding the black and gray necklace in with a fascinator I make out of one of the earrings. Matching jewelry is always a must for a lovely Dame.

Vixens of Vaudeville shows - Dallas

wow...3 blogs in one day? Basically the only time today I've been away from my work table is to write these.

So check it out... A local group, The Vixens of Vaudeville, are doing a series of performances in DFW over the next week. They were kind enough to ask me to vend at their event, but I already had the BBW social booked this weekend and just wasn't able to do both. I was so sad! Still am, actually. I haven't seen them perform all together before and it's on my definite to-do list.

There's a number of performers doing this show and it really looks to be one hell of a group of women working to make these great events. Here is the beautiful Honey Cocoa Bordeauxx on stage at the recent event in Dallas, Hot Rods and Heels. And see that pretty yellow thing on her head? Yeah, that's one of mine. *beams* She bought it at the Bewitching Burlesque show in April and has been getting some great use out of it! Check out these incredibly lovely shots from a recent photo shoot she did. Hope you enjoy them as much as I do!

I just love the richness of the colors in this photo! Gold and black are such timelessly beautiful colors and she works them incredibly well.

Another beautiful burlesque babe doing a classic Film Noir style photo. Oh I so love me some Film Noir! I really love the softness and mystery of this shot. Her beauty stands out like no other. I'm so proud to have one of my designs gracing this beautiful head.

And check out her blog!!

Make sure to catch the wonderful Courtney Crave performing this Friday the 22nd!

Vending - Dallas BBW Social, Memorial Day weekend

Another event I'll be vending at! May is just soooo busy for me. Need a break! Actually I do have a break coming up soon, I'm going on vacation with my family to Grand Cayman in mid June. Can't wait! Need rest, need a beach, need a fruity boozey drink! So I've been working my tail off this week to work up my inventory so I'll have lots of fun things for the girls at this fun event. I'm so excited! Everyone here is very friendly, I've chatted with a few of them on the yahoo group and I'm looking forward to meeting them.

Here's some details and descriptions about the event I snagged from their website.
  • This years lightly "Treasure Island" themed bash will run through the entire weekend, and will be filled with lots of activities and fun.
  • Meet and greet social Friday night in the "Cambridge/Oxford" room.
  • Full breakfast for hotel guests, group outings, pool and hot-tub parties, full bar, dinner and dancing into the night.
  • After-parties by the pool, with games, jello shots and party favors.
  • Social treasure hunt and silent auction throughout the event.
  • Door prizes, unique product vendors, and much more.

Check out the yahoo group! Tons of really nice people. Warning though, they post... a LOT. haha, be ready for a very friendly and chatty group.

There's still tickets available if you are interested in joining in on the festivities! Check the main page for all details;

Click here for the full agenda of events. There's so much going on! I'm very excited for this event, but now it's time for me to run back to making fascinators. Lots to do! Been working so hard that last night I found a bit of netting stuck to my face. Glamor, baby!!

Post - TX Burlesque Festival in Austin

Meet Amanda. She's an awesome girl that really helped me out this past weekend at the TX Burlesque Fest. One might say she even saved my ass. I know I was incredibly lucky that she was able to roadtrip with me to Austin, help provide me with a place to stay, and be an incredible Booth Buddy. Thank you so much Amanda, you are such a sweet person for helping me out and I really appreciate everything. This was her first experience with burlesque, so seeing 50 performances over 2 days was a great education in the variety of dance styles. She really liked it! We both cheered loudly for the shows, so much so that we nearly lost our voices by Sunday. But always worth it to show our support for the hardworking performers.

I took this shot of my booth on Saturday at the start of the show. I got to chat with and meet so many awesome people this weekend! If you bought something from me, remember to send me photos of you in your DDD fascinator, I'd love to post them up on my blog.

Here's some of my newest designs. They're the classic fascinator on a disk pad. The ivory one in the center is going to a very sweet girl, Brittany T, to be worn on her wedding day! I cannot say how incredibly flattered to have my first bride-to-be as a customer. She has a vintage 1950s ivory wedding dress that is going to look fabulous with the fascinator.

So as with any road trip, Amanda and I stopped for some of the fun sight seeing places along the way. For anyone who makes the Dallas <--> Austin trip regularly, you know allllll about how just north of Waco you have to stop for the Czech food places. We made our pit stop at the Czech Stop for some yummy sausage kolaches. They were delicious! I snapped this photo with my phone of the to die for pastries under the counter.

This photo was taken and sent to my favorite German girl, Courtney Crave. Her response? "mmmmmm sausages" Totally fitting response, I say. Sausage fridge!

Bacon mints? I thought these were more internet myths. Evidently they are real. And I bought a pack for a friend, he's a big fan of the bacon flavored junk online. I'm just morbidly curious enough to want to taste one.... briefly.

Had a blast, thank you everyone that helped put on such a fun show!!

TX Burlesque Festival - Austin, TX - May 15 & 16

Be there... or be square!

Decadent Dame Designs is extremely proud to be supporting this awesome event with a vending table up all weekend. Two... count 'em TWO days of incredible performers! I've never been to a burlesque event this big. Can't wait though!! I'm driving all the was from Dallas to Austin just for this show. Road trip!!!!

I am looking so forward to this event that I can barely sit still. Well that and trying my hardest to make as much new stuff as possible has led to me taking almost no down time all this week. I've been one busy artist! The glue barely has time to dry on my hands... *pick pick*

Lots new pasties!!
Some brand new rhinestone pasties...
More tassels and sequin pasties...
Polka dot pasties!!!
And possibly a set of red leather pasties! (depends on if I can get them finished, fingers crossed!)

Brand new fascinator designs!
I've been trying my hand at the classic fascinator with the disk base. Quite hard! It's a whole new skill set I had to figure out from the ground up. No photos of them right now, you'll just have to come find my booth this weekend and check 'em out.

The fabulously hot Athena Fatale will be at my booth following her performance to sign autographs. Come by to meet her and buy her prints! I have it on good authority that she likes my stuff, so feel free to make her one happy lady and buy her something!

Any idea how many performers are going to grace the stage at Emo's this weekend? A ton! That's how many. FIFTY performances. 50. The big Five - Zero.
Curious as tho who they are? I'll tell ya...

New estate items!

Going shopping for interesting finds at estate sales is quite hard work! I put in about 6 hours of work on Saturday driving all across North Dallas. That's not including how much time I searched online and the papers for my stops, printed descriptions and maps, and mapsco'd the spots to find a route to travel all before leaving my house in the morning.

So made a number of stops, found some stuff at some places, but not all. Even got the dreaded "garage sale claiming to be an estate sale." Rough! So here's one of the items I found at my first stop, a big triangular jar full of really old buttons! Yeah, I know "woo... buttons... exciting..." But you see, there's really a huge variety here, with no limit on the uses I can come up with! Some look to be extremely old, I have never even seen wooden buttons before. Some with the metal square shaped openings on the back, which I've learned can be from the 1920s and earlier, possibly the 1800s. Got a bag full of vintage lace and ribbon scraps also here. I also picked up some old dice, most likely made of bone.

My last stop on my trip on Saturday turned out to be the best. It was the home of an 89 year old woman who is a painter. She painted in pastels and oils, and her home is just covered in all of her beautiful original artwork. She moved in with family recently to be closer to her loved ones, so the family was selling off a portion of her belongings. Her name is Ina Wood, and she's of the Walter family that was some of the original inhabitants of Lewisville. Her family and friends were very nice and I'm happy I got the chance to meet and chat with them.

From her house, I took home a wonderful assortment of items! I found 2 very pretty white aprons with lace. Some clock parts for my Steampunk fans. 12 Sets of jewelry! I loved her jewelry selection, very colorful and shiny and perfect for my fascinators! Here's the jewelry I found at her place as well as the bone dice from an earlier estate.

In a back bedroom of Ina's house I found a closet with a wonderful selection of hats. I brought home all six and their boxes! Two fuchsia ones, 3 black, and one jewel encrusted blue one. Most came with veils, which I was thrilled about. The veils are in a variety of conditions, I'll have to work to either fix or replace them in time. Here's one teaser shot of my selection. Hopefully I'll get some photos soon of some local ladies wearing my hats out and around in town.

Looking forward to getting new stuff made from my finds!
