Returned home to hit the road

So I did in fact return home after my trip to Grand Cayman. I did have some hesitation and thoughts about how I'd get my feathers and stuff shipped in if I decided to stay. But by the end of the trip I was quite ready to be back home with my own bed and kitties. Thanks to a last minute crisis of a lost passport I nearly got stuck there! It's amazing how fast one can change from "awww, I'm going to miss it here *sniff*" to "I want to get the HELL out of this godforsaken town!!!!!"

Really only had time to get the luggage unpacked and washed, because I'm about to hit the road for an overnight trip to Tulsa, Oklahoma! I did sneak in the time to get a few last minute fascinators made. If you're anywhere near OK, then I highly advise coming out to see this show. I know it's last minute... but hey, my mind is still on Vacation Mode.

The detail.... in case you're lazy and don't want to read the flyer.

Decisions... Decisions...

Yeah, I'm not entirely sure I'll be making that flight home next week. I got to go for a sunset swim last night. An amazing experience! Though looking underwater at the darkening ocean is a little creepy. Grand Cayman is a beautiful place.

Me and my youngest nephew taking an evening swim as the sun sets. How could anyone want to leave this place?

Vacation!!

Just wanted to stop by and quickly say that I'll be out of town until June 23rd. I'm currently sitting in lovely Grand Cayman getting some much needed relaxation with the family. Sun, beach, breeze, and even a little booze! Good times, I say.

I will be back in time to unpack my suitcases and wash the sand out of everything, then pack it back up for a trip to slightly less sunny Oklahoma. I'm excited to say this is my first time to bring my designs to an event outside of Texas. I'll be vending at the going away party for the great Green Queen, Kira Von Sutra. I'll be heading up there with my friend Courtney Crave, for a very fun road trip. I haven't even been to Tulsa before! So make sure to catch the show, it's totally worth a little bit of a drive.

Custom work & an Interview

I was out meeting a friend at a diner in downtown Dallas the other day over a table full of vintage sequin appliques and a beautiful vintage hat. While we ooh'd and ahh'd over the pieces we chatted about many things; fashion, inspiration, favoritism, and all kinds of fun ideas for the future. The little minx then took her happy butt over to her blog and wrote up some of the things we talked about. Check out my very first interview over here!

Vivienne Vermuth and I have a history of making back alley deals and swaps. She calls me up, asks for something special, and I hook her up. It's a good relationship :) She gets to keep me on my toes at being able to put together custom work in time for an important performance. I get to see the smile on her face when she realizes it's the perfect item to make her feel perfectly put together on stage. And of course we both get the pride of seeing our talents come together to create something wonderfully artistic.

Here she is performing at a recent burlesque show in dallas, Hot Rods & Heels, wearing one of my custom creations. She uses those beautiful golden wings to create liquid gold. You get the feeling that she's stepping right off the set of an old vegas show and into the spotlight. The fascinator she's wearing is a beautiful gold fan, one that I knew needed to be matched with a matchingly bold and beautiful woman. There are numerous gold swarovski crystals along the feathers to make sure that she sparkles to the highest degree. I wasn't in attendance that evening as it was the weekend of the TX Burlesque Festival in Austin, but I have it on good word that she put on a killer show.

Keep up to date with all her shows and interests by following her blog!

Etsy is fabulous, new item for sale!

So you may remember Amanda, the girl that went down to Austin with me to help out with the Texas Burlesque Festival. She really is quite the talented gal! I wanted to shoot some new photos of my items so I can put them up on Etsy. She jumped at the chance to play dress up and be my model for the day. This is her very first time modeling commercially. Granted, she is usually the first to jump in view if there is a camera within 50 yards... But she has never been given the job of being the model for a specific purpose. How did she do? See for yourself.

I personally think she did a spiffy job, she really is the cat's meow! I don't think I did so bad myself either though. I styled her wardrobe, did the job of hair stylist and makeup artist, photographer, and editor. It takes team work! We were shooting in Downtown Fort Worth, TX during the day. It was 98*F that day!!! She makes it look easy, doesn't she? You can hardly tell we were cooking on a hot May day in Texas.

I just put this item up on my etsy page on Friday night. I've already gotten some wonderful feedback! It hasn't sold yet, so if you just happen to HAVE to have this... get it fast! You can find it Here. This is a one of a kind item, I only have one more matching earring and it will be going on a totally different fascinator.

This earring centerpiece comes with history! I bought it at a living estate in Lewisville, Texas. It was previously owned by a woman named Ina W., who's family was one of the original inhabitants in Lewisville, the Walker family. She was an avid painter in both acrylics and pastels, her lovely home was covered in her original art. She left her home so that she could be closer to loved ones, and the longtime family friend I talked with had a wonderful message. She wanted to remind me and those I know that it is extremely important to check in on our elderly loved ones, that they need all of our love and attentions in their later years.
